General Information

A new sheet pile and trimmed concrete seawall with a splash wall faced in local stone was constructed 20 metres from the old wall originally built in 1902. The wall was then armoured with 7-ton rocks for 15 metres along the entire seafront.

The armour stone was quarried by the firm in a quarry established 12 miles down the coast and brought to site by a 750-ton barge and tugboat. An L-shaped steel pile jetty faced with pre-cast concrete panels was also rebuilt at one end of the reclaimed area, providing three metres of draft alongside. Underground service, pavings and street furniture all formed part of the contract, completed within the 19-month construction schedule.
