General Information

McAlpine was contracted as the concrete subcontractor by Danish company BWSC. The project entailed the construction of a steel framed building with extensive concrete foundations and bases to accommodate two new 18.5 MW MAN 48/60 engines and a steam turbine for the Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) Power Generation Expansion Project (Phase V).

In addition to the building works, the project entailed the drilling of four extraction deep wells, approximately 400’ deep each, as well as all associated civil works to both the building and the wells. McAlpine were the civil works sub-contractors to Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) who carried out the actual installation of the MAN Diesel & Turbo’s engines for the Caribbean power sector. The two 18.5MW MAN 48/60 engines join five existing MAN engines at the Grand Cayman power plant. The project was completed on time and on budget with excellent quality.
