General Information

The perimeter walls for the new dock were built using McAlpine-designed 10 ton precast concrete blocks which featured 24" diameter holes at 4'-0" o.c. which, when aligned vertically, provided a shaft through which a specially adapted drill was passed to drill a 10" dia., 10'-0" hole into the seabed rock. A 90 lb. rail track was then introduced to the full height of the wall and pressure grouted anchor the wall to the seabed. The dock was then filled with rock and capped off with a 12" thick reinforced concrete slab.

The tender dock is 150 feet long, providing a maximum draft of 14 feet. A new terminal and customs building, extensive repairs to existing sea walls, new walkways and railings were included in this contract, adjoining the Deepwater Harbour built by the firm in 1976.
